Innova
Helios 380EX Wins San Juan Challenge '97 Kayak Race Predicted Log
Division
Anacortes, WA --
Over a 40- mile course, and with 30-knot winds and 4-foot seas during the
second day of the race, the Innova Helios 380EX entry won the Predicted Log
Division of this Anacortes Kayak Festival event held April 19-20. The Innova
Helios paddled by Tim Rosenhan and Mike Rust averaged 3 knots over the course,
and their first day's leg from Anacortes to Rosario on Orcas Island in the San
Juan Islands was within 1 minute, 43 seconds of their estimated time of
arrival. The Innova Helios was the only inflatable kayak in the race. The San
Juan Challenge attracted 41 racers in all divisions, including Greg Barton, the
American Kayak Gold Medalist, who won the Men's Competitive Division. On the
windy second day of the race, 9 paddlers in rigid sea kayaks capsized requiring
rescue by chase boats. |
